Federal Government of Nigeria Launches Free Wi-Fi at Lagos and Abuja Airports

May 19, 2024

The Federal Government has announced the availability of free Wi-Fi services at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. This development was confirmed on Sunday by Mr. Tunde Moshood, Special Assistant to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

Mr. Moshood highlighted that the initiative, part of Minister Festus Keyamo’s third agenda, aims to modernize the nation’s aviation infrastructure. “Both local and international flyers can now enjoy free Wi-Fi in Lagos and Abuja. Look for the NCC Free Airport Wi-Fi, and get connected. Your life does not have to pause while at the airport,” he stated. Passengers are encouraged to use the service to stay connected, stream music, and download content from platforms like Netflix.

The implementation of free Wi-Fi services is not limited to Lagos and Abuja. Mr. Moshood disclosed that plans are underway to extend this facility to other airports across Nigeria. “This complies with the agenda of the Minister, which is to improve infrastructures across all airports and the aviation industry as a whole,” he added.

Minister Keyamo had previously pointed out that the absence of Wi-Fi at airports was due to bureaucratic challenges between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). To address this, he reassigned the responsibility of providing Wi-Fi services to NAMA.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, the initiative promises to bring free Wi-Fi access to all Nigerian airports in the near future. Additionally, discussions with international firms are ongoing to introduce in-flight Wi-Fi, aiming to align with global aviation standards and further improve passenger connectivity during flights.

This development marks a significant step towards modernizing Nigeria’s airport facilities, ensuring that passengers can stay connected and productive while traveling.
