Barbara Carolan, a remarkable 94-year-old, embarked on a heartfelt journey across the country to reunite with her younger sister, Shirley, aged 90, for what may be their final meeting in this lifetime. Barbara’s granddaughter, Stephanie Atkinson Shively, lovingly accompanied her on this arduous 2,700-mile trek from New Hampshire to Nevada.
As Barbara and Shirley, who hadn’t seen each other since before the pandemic, spent precious days together, Shively discreetly captured their heartwarming moments on video. The resulting “Go hug your sister” video, shared on TikTok, quickly went viral, garnering over 13 million views and evoking numerous tears from viewers.
Their reunion was filled with touching moments, including Barbara assuring Shirley, “If we don’t see each other [again] on this earth, we’ll see each other in heaven.” To which Shirley replied, “You betcha!” These emotional exchanges left an indelible mark on those who witnessed them, prompting many to reevaluate the importance of cherishing time with loved ones.
Shively’s videos, which she shared in response to an outpouring of requests from fans, served as a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the need to express our love and appreciation to those who matter most.
