The Presidential Elections Petition Tribunal is set to deliver its judgment on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, regarding the petitions challenging the results of the February 25 presidential election.
President Bola Tinubu was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), but his victory was contested by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
Atiku’s challenge to the election results was based on allegations of non-compliance with the Nigerian constitution and the Electoral Act. Meanwhile, Peter Obi sought a declaration of victory for himself.
Following the tribunal’s decision to reserve its judgment on August 1, the date for the verdict was awaited. Now, Chief Registrar Umar Bangari, Esq, has confirmed that the five-member panel has agreed on Wednesday as the date for the judgment.
Media access to the proceedings will be strictly by accreditation.
