In a grim turn of events, the wave of kidnappings in Sagwari Estate Layout at Dutse in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) intensifies as the perpetrators, seeking to amplify their demands, have ruthlessly taken the lives of two abducted individuals. The victims, initially facing a ransom of N60 million each, now find their lives hanging in the balance with an escalated demand totaling N700 million.
Reports indicate that the kidnappers, in a macabre display of brutality, executed the hostages to send a chilling warning to families struggling to meet the ransom. Among the tragic losses is Folorunsho Ariyo, a 13-year-old secondary school student, adding a heart-wrenching dimension to the unfolding crisis.
The situation took a national spotlight when former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Ali Pantami, disclosed his efforts in mobilizing N50 million as part of the ransom for the Al-Kadriyar family. The family, having lost one member, Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, to the kidnappers’ brutality, is desperately working to secure the release of their remaining five daughters.
Meanwhile, the residents of Sagwari Layout, frustrated by the perceived inaction of the government and security agencies, are gearing up for a massive protest. Initially planned for Monday, the protest has been rescheduled to Tuesday due to the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
