Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has been released by the State Security Service (SSS) after spending over 133 days in custody without being charged. He had been suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 14, 2023.
On Wednesday night, a video circulating on social media captured the joyous celebrations with well-wishers welcoming his release.
This development comes shortly after Mr. Bawa filed a lawsuit against the SSS, seeking to declare his detention without trial since June 14, 2023, as illegal and to secure his immediate release. The lawsuit was filed in the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court.
