“Prosecutors Intent on Indicting Hunter Biden Before Month’s End”

Federal prosecutors under the oversight of Delaware US Attorney David Weiss have revealed their intention to seek further criminal charges against Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, by the end of this month. This development is tied to a plea agreement that had unraveled during a hearing held in July, presided over by a federal judge appointed by former President Donald Trump.

In a recent court filing, the prosecutors indicated their plan to “seek the return of an indictment in this case” before September 29, which is when the Speedy Trial Act would require them to formally present charges from a grand jury. Hunter Biden had been served a summons to appear at the failed plea hearing.

The filing, however, did not specify the nature of the charges they intend to pursue or the jurisdiction where they would file them. Notably, David Weiss was designated as a special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland earlier in the summer, granting him the authority to bring charges against the President’s son in any federal district court, not solely in Delaware, where he serves as the US attorney.

The existing charges against Hunter Biden are the result of a lengthy investigation overseen by David Weiss. These charges include allegations of tax evasion for two tax years and a false statement related to a firearm purchase.

Some Republicans have asserted that the failure to bring more serious charges against Hunter Biden demonstrates bias within the Department of Justice in favor of Democrats. However, Attorney General Merrick Garland has refuted claims of any improper influence on the ongoing investigation.

The White House redirected requests for comment to Hunter Biden’s representatives, who had not provided an immediate response at the time of reporting.
