City of Hope Hospital in Los Angeles has developed a groundbreaking cancer drug named AOH1996, targeting the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) protein found in most cancers.
The drug showed remarkable effectiveness against 70 different cancer cells in lab tests, including breast, prostate, brain, ovarian, cervical, skin, and lung cancer. Inspired by Anna Olivia Healy, who tragically passed away from childhood cancer, Dr. Linda Malkas led the 20-year research, seeking to find a cure.
The drug selectively disrupts DNA replication and repair in cancer cells while sparing healthy cells. Currently in Phase 1 clinical trials at City of Hope, the pill offers hope for curbing tumor growth and potentially advancing combination therapies.
