In response to the challenges faced by students due to the removal of fuel subsidy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken decisive action to alleviate the financial burden on students of higher learning. He has directed all Federal Institutions of higher learning to refrain from implementing arbitrary increases in sundry fees and, where possible, to defer any further fee hikes. This measure aims to prevent parents and students from facing undue hardships.

Moreover, President Tinubu has displayed a commitment to prioritize education by approving the provision of buses to students’ bodies in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the nation. This initiative is designed to help students access their campuses without bearing the brunt of higher transportation costs and to reduce the additional burden on parents and guardians.

In addition to these measures, the President has also given the green light to remove all restrictions on students’ loans. This decision ensures that any student or household in need of financial support can now access the students’ loan without hindrance. President Tinubu’s vision is to ensure that no Nigerian student abandons their educational pursuits due to financial constraints resulting from the economic circumstances of their parents.

Furthermore, as part of the government’s efforts to address food security concerns, President Tinubu has directed the release of over 200,000 Metric Tonnes of grains to families in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Additionally, the government is actively working on providing conditional cash transfers and food distribution to vulnerable students.

The Federal Government extends its appreciation to Nigerian students for their courage, wisdom, and partnership during these challenging times. President Tinubu remains committed to enhancing the welfare of both teaching and non-academic staff, as well as investing in infrastructure to elevate our higher learning institutions to global competitiveness.
