In a move aimed at broadening economic access for Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu has greenlit the commencement of the first phase of the consumer credit scheme. Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Aligned with Tinubu’s vision to expand consumer credit opportunities, the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (Credicorp) has inaugurated a portal for Nigerians to indicate their interest in the program. Ngelale highlighted that the initiative is conducted in collaboration with financial institutions and cooperatives nationwide, intending to widen consumer credit accessibility.
The scheme, set to be rolled out in phases, will initially cater to civil servants before extending to the broader public. Ngelale emphasized the significance of this initiative, asserting that it aligns with the President’s belief that every industrious Nigerian should have the means to achieve social mobility, with consumer credit serving as a vital tool in realizing this vision.
Interested working Nigerians are encouraged to visit credicorp.ng to express their interest, with a deadline set for May 15, 2024. Consumer credit, often regarded as the lifeblood of modern economies, empowers citizens to improve their standard of living by accessing goods and services upfront while responsibly managing payments over time.
This initiative underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering economic inclusivity and empowering Nigerian citizens to thrive in today’s dynamic economic landscape.
