Governor Caleb Mutfwang has urgently imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria, following heightened security concerns. The decision, revealed through a press statement by spokesperson Gyang Bere on Tuesday, was taken after consultations with security agencies to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The move comes in the wake of a reported religious crisis, with the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) set ablaze by armed assailants in Mangu. According to SaharaReporters, armed men are targeting church buildings and individuals perceived to be Christians, allegedly coming from surrounding bushes.

Governor Mutfwang expressed concern over persistent efforts to create insecurity in the state, despite government interventions against terrorist activities. He extended sympathy to the affected families and emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing long-term stability in the state.

The governor vowed to reassess the curfew as soon as the local security situation improves. Mangu has been a hotspot for attacks, with armed Fulani herdsmen previously sacking the area, resulting in the establishment of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps.

The declaration aims to curb the escalating violence and protect residents, reflecting the ongoing challenges faced by communities in the region.
