Peter Obi visited the state of Abia to oversee multiple projects, including the commissioning of the Geometric Power Plant.
Professor Barth Nnaji, the former Minister of Power under Goodluck Jonathan, and his remarkable spouse, the General Manager of Geometric Power Limited, are the driving forces behind this enormous step.
Barth was on track to turn around the power industry, but his time in office was cut short when it was revealed that a business that he supported secured a bid for the BPE Privatisation Reforms that were then being pursued by OBJ and GEJ.
What you’re witnessing in the Aba IPP is the result of Barth’s resignation.
Nigeria is still without electricity more than ten years later as a result of National Grid failures and Gas supply inefficiency.
Geometric Power Plant has encountered numerous obstacles, such as financial constraints and COVID-19 outbreaks.
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, had to intervene at some point, during her time at the World Bank.
We must mention and commend the present and past Governors of Abia State, Mr Alex Otti, who teleguided the project to a speedy finish, and Mr Okezie Ikpeazu, the former governor, who spearheaded some stages of the project and was capable of completing it but was unable to do so for reasons best known to him.
Geometric Power is the pioneer in the Nigerian power sector. They’ve been in business since the year 2000. They installed the first high efficiency combined emergency power station in 2001 for the FCT.
The Aba IPP power station has an Energy Performance Contract (EPC) with General Electric USA. The power station’s contractor is a group of South Africans called Five. Pauwels of Belgium is the contractor for the substations. While, ABB Powerlines Nigeria Limited
is in charge of the over-head power lines.
Congratulations to the people of Abia State & Nigeria as a whole.
