In a statement released on Monday, the Northern Senators Forum, comprising 58 lawmakers, expressed dissatisfaction with the projected allocations of the N28.7tn 2024 budget, asserting that it unfairly favored other regions over the North.
Led by their spokesperson, Senator Suleiman Kawu Summaila (NNPP Kano South), the senators raised objections to what they perceived as a lopsided distribution of resources and the relocation of some federal agencies from Abuja to Lagos.
The statement titled “Allocation and distribution of funds in 2024 National Budget and Relocation of some Federal Agencies to Lagos” outlined the senators’ commitment to addressing the concerns and sentiments of their constituents in the North.
Senator Summaila emphasized, “We are actively engaging with our colleagues to address these matters effectively. We firmly believe in the power of open dialogue and collaboration to bring about positive change for our nation.”
The lawmakers acknowledged their role as intermediaries between the people and the government, pledging to seek an amicable resolution within the confines of the constitution and existing laws.
While assuring their constituents that their concerns are being taken seriously, the senators urged patience as they explore avenues for dialogue, engage in peaceful negotiations, and deploy legal measures if necessary.
The statement concluded with a call for continued support and understanding from the constituents during this critical juncture.
