The Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) has confirmed that there were no casualties in the recent fire incident that occurred at the Port and Cargo Terminal situated within the Tin-Can Island Port. According to Mr. Shola Adesanwo, the Public Relations Officer of the Port, the fire originated from a gantry crane’s tire at the ship side. Swift action by firefighters prevented the inferno from spreading to the crane.

While the fire has been extinguished, Mr. Adesanwo mentioned that discussions with the fire service department of the agency are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. Further details will be disclosed once the investigation is completed and an official statement is released.

The incident, which transpired at Terminal ‘C’ operated by Port and Cargo, kept firefighters busy for over five hours as they battled to control the flames. However, despite efforts to reach the management of Port and Cargo for additional information, calls and messages went unanswered.

As the situation remains under investigation, authorities and stakeholders will be closely monitoring the aftermath of the fire at one of Nigeria’s significant port facilities. Updates on the incident will be provided as more information becomes available.
