Nigerian Televangelist Apostle Johnson Suleman Meets with Acting Inspector General of Police Following Attack

July 19, 2023

Apostle Johnson Suleman, the renowned Nigerian televangelist and founder of Omega Fire Ministry, recently had a significant meeting with the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. This encounter comes in the wake of a deadly attack on his convoy in Edo State, South-south Nigeria, in October 2022.

The police made a significant breakthrough in the case when they arrested a suspect linked to the attack. Yusuf Isa, a 32-year-old plumber from Okene in Kogi State, was paraded at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, and in a video posted on Twitter, he confessed to being a member of the eight-man gang that attacked the cleric. He revealed that they were paid a staggering sum of N50 million to carry out the heinous act.

In a recent Twitter post, Apostle Suleman shared a photo of himself with the acting Inspector General of Police and hinted at his determination to seek justice for those who lost their lives in the attack. He expressed his resolve to work closely with the police to ensure that all the culprits are brought to book. However, the cleric refrained from divulging further details until the investigation is concluded.

During the attack, seven people, including three police officers, tragically lost their lives, leading Apostle Suleman to term the incident an “assassination attempt.” The suspect, Mr. Isah, stated that a gang member who worked as their driver died during the attack, and the aftermath has been nothing short of “hell” for them. He also disclosed that only four members of the gang were still at large.

While Mr. Isah declined to name the sponsor behind the attack, he mentioned that his fellow gang members informed him that they were hired to carry out the assassination. Apostle Suleman asserted that revealing the identity of those responsible for the attack was the duty of the authorities, indicating his trust in the ongoing investigation.

It is worth noting that in the period between 2022 and 2023, Edo State witnessed a series of abductions, including five Catholic priests, with two of them losing their lives in the process.

As the investigation continues, the Nigerian public awaits justice and accountability for the heinous attack on the prominent televangelist, Apostle Johnson Suleman.
