The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended Barrister Ekere Ebong, following a widely circulated video capturing him physically abusing his wife. The Akwa Ibom Police Command confirmed the arrest and indicated that charges would be filed shortly.
Mrs. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs, strongly denounced Mr. Ebong’s actions in the disturbing video. The lawyer, based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom’s capital, was recorded assaulting his wife, leaving her with visible injuries to her mouth and nose.
According to a concerned neighbor, the abuse had been ongoing for four years, with nightly incidents of violence. Ohanenye, expressing her outrage on Twitter, declared that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs had ordered Mr. Ebong’s arrest, emphasizing that justice would prevail even if the victim chose not to pursue legal action due to family pressure.
