In a move to enhance government transparency and information dissemination, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has announced the appointment of 94 social media influencers as media aides. This decision follows the appointment of 44 social media influencers in September as “special reporters,” bringing the total number of special reporters working for the governor to 138.

Sanusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Tuesday, detailing the purpose of these appointments. The newly appointed influencers are tasked with covering various government ministries, agencies, and parastatals to ensure the public has access to information about government activities and to promote good governance.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration is committed to improving accessibility to information as a means of enhancing good governance within the state. Sanusi Bature emphasized that these Senior Special Reporters (SSRs) and Special Reporters (SRs) are strategically placed within government entities to contribute to transparency and accountability through effective information dissemination of government policies and programs.

In his statement, Mr. Bature congratulated the new appointees and urged them to uphold the ethics of media and digital communication in fulfilling their responsibilities.

These appointments of 138 special reporters are in addition to the approximately 200 individuals who were previously appointed as senior special advisers, senior special assistants, and assistants, further demonstrating the governor’s commitment to a well-rounded advisory team.
