Nasir El-Rufai, after bowing out of his ministerial aspirations due to political challenges, is drawing inspiration from the lyrics of Bob Marley’s song that laments betrayal by close associates. The Kaduna politician, forced to abandon his ministerial bid due to opposition from Nuhu Ribadu and his own political protégé Uba Sani, is now enjoying the timeless wisdom of Marley’s 1976 hit “Who the Cap Fit.”
Earlier nominated for a ministerial role by Mr. Tinubu, El-Rufai withdrew his candidacy when Ribadu withheld clearance, leading to his confirmation suspension by the Senate. Departing for Egypt and planning a European study trip, El-Rufai continues to engage his 2.3 million Twitter followers with insightful posts.
El-Rufai’s tweet referenced Marley’s song lyrics, which highlight the fickleness of some relationships: “Some will eat and drink with you. Then behind them su-su ‘pon you. Some will hate you, pretend they love you now. Then behind they try to eliminate you.”
Although not explicitly aimed at anyone, El-Rufai’s tweet could be directed at his successor, Uba Sani, who attempted to undermine him over Kaduna’s ministerial representation. El-Rufai had suggested Jafaru Sani, a former commissioner, as his replacement, but Uba Sani contested this. He later denied opposing the choice, but sources indicated his opposition.
As Mr. Tinubu finalizes his cabinet, Jafaru Sani’s appointment as the Kaduna cabinet minister remains pending. El-Rufai has not commented on whether his tweet targets Uba Sani.
