A six-year-old disabled boy met a tragic end after allegedly being thrown into a crocodile-infested river by his own mother. The incident, which occurred in Uttara Kannada, a district in the western Indian state of Karnataka, has left the community reeling in shock and disbelief.

According to reports from the Times of India, the mother, Savitri Kumar, 26, purportedly engaged in a heated argument with her husband, Ravi Kumar, 27, over their son’s disability. Witnesses claim that the father repeatedly ordered Savitri to “throw the child away,” reflecting a disturbing exchange that underscores the challenges faced by families dealing with disabilities.

The altercation reached a tragic climax on Saturday evening when, in a state of distress, Savitri allegedly threw her son into a waste canal that feeds into the Kali river, known for its population of crocodiles. Despite the efforts of concerned neighbors who alerted the authorities, darkness thwarted initial rescue attempts.

Tragically, the boy’s body was discovered the following morning, bearing the unmistakable marks of a savage attack. Bite wounds and the absence of a hand strongly suggest that the child fell victim to one or more crocodiles inhabiting the treacherous waters.

The couple, who also has a two-year-old son, reportedly frequently clashed over their older son’s speech impediment, highlighting the strain that such challenges can place on familial relationships. In the wake of this horrific incident, law enforcement officials have launched a thorough investigation, with both parents now in custody.

Speaking to local media outlets, a police officer described the incident as a “murder” case, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the need for swift justice. As authorities await the results of a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of the child’s death, the community grapples with profound sorrow and questions that may never be fully answered.
