Pop icon Madonna has broken her silence for the first time since her shocking hospitalization and ICU stay. In a statement posted on Instagram, the Queen of Pop expressed that she is “on the road to recovery” after being discharged from the hospital a week and a half ago. Alongside the statement, she shared a selfie and mentioned that her children were her first thought when she woke up in the hospital.
As previously reported by Page Six, Madonna was found unresponsive on June 24 and swiftly taken to a New York City hospital, where she received intensive care, including intubation. Her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, revealed that she remained intubated for at least one night before the tube was removed, but she continued to stay in the ICU for several days. Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon was by her side during her hospitalization, and she has since made a full recovery and returned home.
Oseary also informed fans through social media that Madonna had developed a serious bacterial infection that required treatment, but her health has been improving. As a result of the health crisis, Madonna had to postpone her “Celebration” tour. Oseary assured fans that updated information, including a new start date for the global trek, would be shared as it becomes available.
Sources close to the situation revealed that Madonna had been dedicating long hours to rehearsals at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum before her hospitalization. Despite the setback, Madonna had been having a great time during rehearsals and had no intention of canceling her shows.
During the news of Madonna’s hospitalization, her sons, David Banda and Rocco Ritchie, were seen arriving at her Upper East Side home. Madonna’s close friend and “A League of Their Own” co-star Rosie O’Donnell shared on Instagram that the renowned performer was feeling good, while comedian Kathy Griffin defended Madonna against trolls who were mocking her hospitalization.
As Madonna continues her recovery, fans eagerly await further updates on her health and the rescheduled dates for her much-anticipated “Celebration” tour.
