Members of the Yobe State House of Assembly yesterday elected Hon. Buba Chiroma Mashiyo, as speaker of the 8th assembly in the state.
Hon. Machiyo, representing Jajere Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the one of the longest serving state assembly members in the country.
Our correspondent reports that the lawmaker has been in the state assembly since 1999, when he was elected as member representing Jajere Constituency in Fune LGA of Yobe State, on the platform of the defunct All People’s Party (APP).
The Clerk of the house, Barrister Mohammed Alkali Yusuf, said the assembly received a proclamation letter from Governor Mai Mala Buni of the state to hold its first session yesterday in accordance with section 105, sub section 3 of the 1999 constitution (as amended).
All the 24 members in the state assembly participated in the election that produced Machiyo as the speaker.
Hon. Adamu Dala Dogo, the member representing Karasuwa constituency had nominated him and was seconded by Hon. Bukar Mustapha Timba representing Geidam Central Constituency.
The members of the 8th assembly also elected Hon. Yau Usman Dachia, the member representing Jakusko constituency as deputy speaker.
