A high-powered task force led by the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Adamawa State, Usman Babbada, on Wednesday enforced the two-day warning strike declared by the union.

The task force comprised of the State Monitoring Group (SMG) and leaders from some affiliates of the NLC.

The Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) was the first to lock up two high court complexes, leading to the suspension of judgments by the election petition tribunals in Adamawa.

The task force also made efforts to enforce the strike at the state secretariat where workers were chased out, and some permanent secretaries were engaged in a “gentle dialogue” to vacate the premises.

The strike serves as a wake-up call to the government and employers to prioritize workers’ needs and take action to address the prevailing hardships across the country due to fuel subsidy removal.

Meanwhile, workers at the Federal Secretariat in Ibadan have shunned their offices in compliance with the warning strike.

During an observation visit in the early working hours, it was observed that offices in the Federal Secretariat complex were under lock and key.

It was also observed that labour leaders barricaded the gates of the secretariat to ensure compliance.
