King Charles’ Funeral Plans Undergo Regular Updates Amid Cancer Diagnosis

April 25, 2024

As King Charles’ health continues to decline following his cancer diagnosis, Buckingham Palace officials are reportedly keeping a regularly updated plan for his impending funeral, insiders have disclosed. Preparations for this solemn event began the day after the burial of Queen Elizabeth, sources revealed.

The 75-year-old monarch, who announced his cancer prognosis in February, has opted to remain largely out of the public eye to conceal the severity of his condition. Multiple sources have disclosed to The Daily Beast that his situation is “not good.”

“Of course he is determined to beat it and they are throwing everything at it. Everyone is staying optimistic, but he is really very unwell. More than they are letting on,” a source described as an old friend of the royal family told the outlet.

While the exact type of cancer King Charles has been diagnosed with remains undisclosed, he has confirmed it is not prostate cancer, which typically carries a more favorable prognosis. Despite the tight-lipped nature of his medical journey, well-placed insiders and political commentators have publicly acknowledged that the King is “responding really well” to treatment.

Behind the scenes, aides to King Charles are diligently reviewing copies of a comprehensive document outlining his royal funeral plans, known as “Operation Menai Bridge.”

“The plans have been dusted off and are actively being kept up to date. It’s no more than what you would expect given the king has been diagnosed with cancer. But the circulation of them has certainly focused minds,” a former staffer with links to the serving courtiers told the Daily Beast.

Military officials have confirmed to the Daily Beast that Operation Menai Bridge is being regularly updated, emphasizing that it is standard procedure and not indicative of the king’s immediate prognosis.

“All royal members of the plan have updated funeral plans that are categorized by bridge-based codewords, with Queen Elizabeth’s famously being ‘Operation London Bridge,'” the report stated.

“Serious planning for Charles’ funeral began the day after they buried the queen,” officials confirmed.

Reflecting on the magnitude of the preparations, a senior official involved in the planning of royal funerals emphasized the meticulous nature of the process, stating, “It’s not an emotional thing, it’s a job, one taken very seriously, and understandably no one plans to get caught out.”

With the involvement of numerous military regiments and security measures, including the Household Division under Major General James Bowder, the scale of the operation is immense. “That’s just the ceremonial end,” one official added. “Then you need a giant security operation because every VVIP on the planet is there.”

King Charles’ officials did not respond to requests for comment from Page Six or the Daily Beast, despite numerous inquiries from various media outlets.
