Nigeria’s ride-hailing company, Gab Taxi, will debut today in Abuja as part of effort to complement the federal government in providing affordable transportation for citizens.
The Chairman of EF Group, which is the holding company of EF Network, owners of Gab Taxi, Mr Gideon Egbuchulam, disclosed this over the weekend during a press conference, noting that that the move was necessitated to complement the federal government’s effort in the transport sector and break the foreign monopoly in the ride-hailing business.
On why he ventured into the transport sector, he said, “Many Nigerian taxi drivers are finding it difficult to survive in the business owing to what they get as take home while working for some foreign ride-hailing companies.”
He further said, “Ride-hailing services have transformed the transportation industry by offering passengers a convenient and affordable alternative to traditional taxis and public which is why Gab Taxi is offering affordable and safe transportation services as the company will only charge 15 per cent commission on rides as against 30 per cent charged by foreign ride-hailing companies like Uber and Bolt.”
Asked about the safety of drivers and passengers and entrance into other states, Egbuchulam said that the company was in collaboration with security agencies to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers, adding that operations would commence in Abuja today and other starts would follow in the subsequent weeks.
