Two children under the age of five were both allegedly stabbed and one nearly drowned by their 35-year-old mother in Michigan at the weekend.
Disturbing police body cam footage shows the moment officers stormed inside the home, kicked down the door of the bathroom and saved a toddler, 2, who appeared to have been held under water by her mom.
The young girl had stab wounds to her neck and chest and wasn’t breathing when officers arrived and began performing life-saving measures, according to Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
A four-year-old boy was also found in the home with stab wounds. Two uninjured girls, aged 8 and 15, were in the house as well.
Neighbors identified the mom as Jessica Deirdre Edward-Ricks to wzzm13 and a police inmate data base listed her with charges of assault, two counts of assault with intent to murder and four counts of neglect.
Police said in a statement to Facebook that they responded to the home after the 15-year-old called for help – they could hear blood curdling screams in the background of the call.
As they drove to the home, police dispatch can be heard saying: ‘We have a female on the line, she’s advising her mother has just killed her sister.
‘She’s advising there is a knife involved, we’re trying to get further … the mother has stabbed her sister,’ dispatch explains.
The officers can be seen pulling up to a residence where the door was left ajar.
Racing into the property, someone can be heard screaming ‘help’ in the background as well as some inaudible screaming, as police run towards the home.
The responding officers pull out their guns as they descend upon the crime scene establishing their presence and walking through the house.
All the room doors appear to be open except the bathroom which is locked shut, a responding officer kicks in the door where a woman appears to be sitting in the bath with the child.
‘No, what’s going on?’ the officer screams as she sits back up on the side of the tub.
Grabbing the toddler the officer quickly begins to perform Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the unconscious child who isn’t moving or making any noise.
‘She’s been stabbed in the throat,’ he can be heard saying as he walks to another room.
‘We got a child with a stab wound in the chest we need medical priority one,’ the officer is heard saying to dispatch before speaking to the toddler and saying: ‘Wake up baby.’
The footage goes dark as the officer explains that ‘the mother was drowning it in the bathtub when we found it.’
The officer can be heard performing CPR, counting and pleading for the baby to breathe.
A few moments later, the baby can be heard beginning to make noises again, coughing up water as the officers put her on her side.
The officers can be seen patting her back as she lays on her side in a cloth diaper.
A four-year-old boy was also found in the home with cuts and it is believed that he and the two-year-old girl had ingested cleaning fluid, police say.
The children were taken to a hospital in Jackson before being flown to Ann Arbor and remain in a stable condition.
It’s believed Edward-Ricks also ingested cleaning fluid and was taken to hospital. She remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
DailyMail.com has contacted police for further comment on the case and reached out to neighbors of Edward-Ricks.
