Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, inaugurated commercial operations on the Lagos intra-state train service at 9:07 a.m. today, boarding one of the Blue Line Rail coaches. The train, carrying the governor, permanent secretaries, and political leaders, embarked on its journey at 9:13 a.m.

Before boarding, Governor Sanwo-Olu addressed the guests and passengers, urging them to maintain orderliness.

According to the governor’s media aide, Jubril Gawat, the rail service will commence with 12 trips daily for the first two weeks, gradually increasing to 76 trips per day.

Fares for a complete journey from Marina to Mile 2 are set at N750, with zonal fares ranging from N400 to N500 for passengers not traveling the entire route. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s transportation palliative also applies to the train system, ensuring the highest fare for the full trip is N375.

In terms of safety, more than 300 CCTV cameras will be installed along the entire Blue Line Rail, with over 30 cameras monitoring the tracks alone. Command and control centers will be operational at all stations.

Plain-clothed security personnel and officers from the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps will accompany passengers at all times, with zero tolerance for any altercations on the train. Additionally, vandalism of the rail infrastructure will not be tolerated.
