Governor Hope Uzodimma on Tuesday visited the scene of an attack on security operatives in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, hours after the incident.

The governor also expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, assuring the people of Imo State of the government’s unwavering commitment to tackling criminal activities within the state.

Tragedy struck as a group of armed assailants reportedly ambushed and killed at least five members of a joint security task force, which included personnel from the police, army, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). This horrifying incident unfolded within the Umualumaku community.

According to eyewitnesses in the village, the security task force was conducting a routine patrol using two security trucks when they fell victim to the ambush. The attackers, who struck around the Oriagu and Aba Branch areas of the community, not only killed the security personnel but also set their vehicles ablaze.

Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the police in Imo State, confirmed the incident to Channels Television. Although specific details surrounding the attack remain limited at this time, law enforcement authorities are actively investigating the matter. In the meantime, security measures have been reinforced in the area, and the commissioner of police has issued directives for his officers to pursue and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.
