Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has announced the implementation of free education in all public primary and secondary schools in the state. The decision comes as a measure to mitigate the impact of the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).
Starting from the upcoming academic session, students will no longer be required to pay fees, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Bello. Governor Kefas made this declaration during his assessment tour at Ebenezer Primary School in Wukari.
Governor Kefas emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to cover educational expenses, and students should not be burdened with any fees. This initiative not only fulfills a campaign promise but also addresses the challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidy, which has caused hardship across the country.
