The decision to marry was one that Roberts revealed to the world in January, sharing a clip of her conversation with motivational speaker Gabby Bernstein where she confessed her intentions. Despite initial hesitation, she embraced the idea of marriage as the “next chapter” in her life with Laign, even humorously fanning herself with note cards during the broadcast.

Their love story began in 2005 when mutual friends arranged a blind date, but it wasn’t until 2013 that Roberts publicly came out as gay. She thanked Amber in a heartfelt Facebook post, acknowledging her support during her battle with breast cancer.

Their journey has not been without its challenges, with Laign facing a breast cancer diagnosis in 2021 and complications from chemotherapy in April 2022. However, their love has only grown stronger in the face of adversity.

The couple decided to marry in 2022 during a casual dining experience in Connecticut, where they exchanged calamari rings as symbols of their commitment to one another. It was a fittingly unique and intimate proposal for the pair.

Their wedding was a star-studded affair, with colleagues and friends from the world of news, including Diane Sawyer, Lara Spencer, Michael Strahan, and more, coming together to celebrate their love. Emmy-nominated actress Niecy Nash co-hosted the event, with delicious mocktail concoctions by Carla Hall
