According to a recent report, supermodel Gigi Hadid was arrested for marijuana possession while on vacation in the Cayman Islands. The incident occurred when customs officers conducted a luggage scan upon the models’ arrival at the airport on July 10. Subsequently, a more extensive search of their bags revealed marijuana and paraphernalia related to its consumption.
Both Gigi Hadid, 28, and her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy, 29, were arrested on suspicion of importing marijuana and possessing utensils for its consumption. They were taken to the Prisoner Detention Center for processing but were later released on bail.
On July 12, Hadid and McCarthy appeared in Summary Court, where they pleaded guilty to the charges. They were each fined $1,000 and managed to avoid a recorded conviction.
In response to the incident, Hadid’s representative issued a statement clarifying that the marijuana was legally purchased in New York City with a medical license. The representative also noted that medical use of marijuana has been legal in Grand Cayman since 2017. Hadid’s record remains clean, and she continued to enjoy her time on the island.
Despite the brief time spent behind bars, Hadid seemed unfazed as she shared several photos on Instagram from her tropical vacation. In one series of pictures, she proudly displayed a large dragon tattoo on her hip while wearing a bikini. McCarthy also appeared carefree as she shared risqué photos of the group sunbathing on the island.
It appears that the trip was a belated birthday celebration for McCarthy.
