As former President Jimmy Carter nears his 100th birthday, his milestone celebration isn’t on his mind. Defeating Donald Trump is…..
In a surprising revelation, former President Jimmy Carter has indicated that his primary focus is not on his upcoming 100th birthday but on the 2024 presidential election. “I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” Carter told his son Chip earlier this week, according to his grandson Jason Carter.
Jimmy Carter, who will celebrate his 100th birthday on October 1, has been under hospice care since February 2023. At the time, his physicians believed he had only days to live, making his nearing of the century mark a stunning milestone.
Jason Carter, a former Democratic gubernatorial nominee, noted that his grandfather has recently shown increased alertness and interest in politics and the ongoing war in Gaza. The conversation with Chip occurred a few days ago when Chip asked if the former president was aiming to reach his 100th birthday. Carter’s response emphasized his political engagement, particularly his support for Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee.
Despite his focus on the upcoming election, there are numerous celebrations planned to honor Carter’s centennial milestone. On September 17, a concert will be held at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta to raise funds for the Carter Center, the nonprofit organization Carter established to promote human rights, advance democracy, and eradicate diseases. Additional events are scheduled in Atlanta and Carter’s hometown of Plains, Georgia, where he remains in hospice care.
The former president won’t have to wait long after his birthday to cast his ballot. Georgia’s three-week early voting period for the presidential election begins on October 15, allowing Carter the opportunity to participate in the election that he views as so crucial.
