Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, the former Emir of Kano, has spoken out, encouraging Nigerians to stop tolerating political leaders’ excesses and intimidation. He emphasized that holding politicians accountable is vital for the future of the country.

Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), emphasized that not being involved in politics doesn’t make Nigerians any less significant. He noted that many individuals shy away from challenging politicians due to fear and complacency.

In a widely circulated video, Sanusi expressed, “We must not be cowed by someone just because they hold a presidential or governorship position. We should not hesitate to tell them when they are wrong.”

He continued, “We’ve chosen different paths. If I had ventured into politics, considering the people who have become presidents or governors in Nigeria, I could have held such positions too. But my absence from politics doesn’t make me a subordinate human being. This is a lesson all Nigerians need to learn.”

Sanusi passionately stressed that Nigeria’s populace tends to endure unacceptable behavior from politicians and often remains passive in their comfort zones. He warned that if this attitude persists, the next generation might not have a viable country to inherit.

He urged non-politicians to play an active role in holding political leaders accountable, asserting that such a stance is necessary to safeguard the nation’s future. He acknowledged that this might not be an easy path, especially when politicians are incompetent or antagonistic, but it’s essential for the nation’s well-being.

Addressing young Nigerians, Sanusi implored them not to falter, emphasizing that the nation’s destiny lies in their hands. He urged them to actively contribute to building a better Nigeria for themselves and future generations.
