The Federal Capital Territory High Court has denied the Department of State Services (DSS) request for a 14-day “extended detention order” for the suspended Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
According to reports, the DSS’s legal team discreetly filed the application before a vacation judge on Wednesday, citing new evidence they had discovered.
In the ruling, Justice Hamza Muazu declared the application an abuse of the court process and asserted that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.
Previously, Emefiele was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos on charges of illegal possession of firearms. Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted him bail in the sum of N20 million and ordered him to be remanded in the Ikoyi facility of the Nigeria Correctional Service pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.
However, the DSS intervened and prevented the correctional service from taking custody of Emefiele. Subsequently, the secret police arrested him and took him away.
