Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has made significant strides in enhancing the welfare of civil servants in the state. The recent approval of a new minimum wage of N70,000 and the commitment to pay a 13th-month salary signify a remarkable gesture towards uplifting workers’ standards of living.
Governor Obaseki announced the wage increment during the commissioning of the new Labour House in Edo state, emphasizing that the new wage would take effect from May 1st, 2024. Additionally, the Governor’s pledge to pay the 13th-month salary on December 27th has garnered praise and appreciation from the workers’ community.
According to the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State Council, Comrade Chief Odion Olaye (JP), “We on behalf of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the working people of Edo State wish to put on record the unprecedented and a landmark decision of His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki to pay the Edo Worker on the 11th of December, 2023.”
Olaye highlighted the significance of Governor Obaseki’s decision, stating, “It is unprecedented and a historical reference that will remain a long time in our hearts that a sitting governor without any pressure, decided in his own volition to pay its workers on the 11th of December have set a new benchmark for the Nation.”
Olaye assured Governor Obaseki of the workers’ unwavering support and solidarity, affirming their commitment to his administration’s success and the continuity of its positive impact on the state. He concluded by expressing confidence in the Governor’s leadership and pledging solidarity from the entire Edo State workforce.
“We express our unalloyed commitment to Your Excellency’s Administration and our resolve to remain with you in all your drive to complete your tenure strongly and have a worthy successor,” Olaye added.
