The Department of State Services (DSS) issued a warning on Monday, revealing that it has uncovered a scheme by dissatisfied politicians to orchestrate nationwide violent protests. Their objective is to discredit the Federal Government and security agencies, using various socio-economic issues in the country as a pretext.
The spokesperson for the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunnaya, made this announcement in a statement released in Abuja. According to Dr. Afunnaya, “Intelligence reports have indicated that the plotters include certain politicians who are desperately mobilizing unsuspecting student leaders, ethnic-based associations, youth, and disgruntled groups for the planned action.”
He further noted that the DSS has identified the ringleaders of this plot and is actively monitoring them to deter them from pushing the country into chaos.
Given this development, the DSS has advised University Vice-Chancellors and Heads of Tertiary Institutions to discourage their students from participating in activities that could disrupt public peace. Parents and guardians have also been urged to counsel their children and wards to avoid getting involved in any behavior or conduct that goes against the law and order.
While acknowledging the government’s commitment to addressing the nation’s challenges, the DSS cautioned those attempting to undermine national security to reconsider their actions. The DSS emphasized that it will not hesitate to take legal action against individuals and groups involved in these sinister plans.
