King Charles III and Queen Camilla have been crowned in a historic coronation ceremony.
The King has become the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned at Westminster Abbey, the nation’s coronation church, since William the Conqueror was anointed monarch within its walls on Christmas Day 1066.
The newly-crowned King will wear his Imperial State Crown for the first time and switch into an outfit of regal purple splendour for his departure from his coronation ceremony.
Before the King was officially crowned, the Dean of Westminster brought the crown to the Archbishop of Canterbury who said the prayer of blessing.
He then proclaimed: “God save The King!”
The congregation responded: “God save The King!”
It comes as Prince Louis has drew attention at the coronation ceremony as pictures show him yawning, fidgeting and pointing at the ceiling.
It comes after Prince Harry, wearing medals pinned to his suit jacket, arrived alone at the Abbey to watch his father be crowned, before he took a seat in the third row.
Queen Camilla has been crowned at Westminster Abbey.
She was anointed in public by the Archbishop of Canterbury, in a break with tradition.
The Dean of Westminster poured oil from the ampulla into the coronation spoon, and held the spoon for the Archbishop of Canterbury.
As she was anointed the Archbishop says: “Be your head anointed with holy oil.
“Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness; hear our prayer this day for thy servant Camilla, whom in thy name, and with all devotion, we consecrate our Queen.
“Make her strong in faith and love, defend her on every side, and guide her in truth and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
In a break with tradition, the Prince of Wales was the only blood prince to pay homage during the service.
Kneeling before the King, he said: “I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God.”
Prince Harry did not pay homage alongside his brother.
