In a tragic revelation, the Plateau State Police Command confirmed on Tuesday that 96 lives were lost in a series of attacks that occurred on Christmas Eve in Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local government areas.
The Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, disclosed that the attacks affected 12 villages in Bokkos LGA, leaving 221 houses, 27 motorcycles, and 8 motor-vehicles in ashes. The impacted villages included Ndun, Ngyong, Murfet, Makundary, Tamiso, Chiang, Tahore, Gawarba, Dares, Meyenga, Darwat, and Butura Kampani.
Additionally, three villages in Barkin-Ladi LGA—NTV, Hurum, and Darawat—suffered similar tragic fates. The Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro J. Alawari, expressed grief over the assaults carried out by some yet to identified assailants at odd hours of the night on the 24/12/2023 and promptly directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to relocate to Bokkos LGA.
In order to prevent further carnage, the Commissioner of Police have directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police incharge Operations (DC DOPs) to relocate to Bokkos LGA.
A high-powered delegation of well-armed operational forces has been deployed to the affected areas to prevent further attacks and assess the extent of the damages. The Commissioner conveyed sympathies to the families of the victims and assured ongoing investigations, promising to communicate further developments.
