Boyfriend Allegedly Murders Texas Woman After She Refused To Have Baby With Him

April 20, 2023

A Texas man was arrested last week after allegedly murdering his girlfriend for refusing to have a baby with him.

Adam Byrd, 23, was arrested on April 13 and charged in the fatal shooting of Jade Alyssa Alvarez, 22, who was shot several times. Her body was found around 6:30 a.m. on April 6 by a San Antonio police officer, according to NBC News 4 San Antonio.

“When the Medical Examiner arrived, the victim was found to have two gunshot wounds to the back of the head and one gunshot wound to the abdomen,” police explained in a statement obtained by People.

The arrest report indicated that a female witness dropped off Alvarez on Capital Ave. between 10:30 and 11 p.m. the night before her body was discovered. This was the last time Alvarez was seen alive.

Alvarez spoke with Byrd using the witness’ cellphone on the night of the incident before she was dropped off at the Capitol Ave. location.

This same witness later identified Byrd by photo, noting that Alvarez was in a relationship with him.

Police said that several nearby residents “reported hearing a single gunshot, a woman screaming, and then hearing several more gunshots” in the same area where Alvarez went to meet Byrd, People reported.

Byrd was also wanted on an April 1 robbery charge at the time of Alvarez’s death. He was the subject of an active warrant on two counts of aggravated robbery, according to Law&Crime.

Byrd was brought in for questioning about the robbery on April 12, where he and a homicide detective also discussed Alvarez’s murder.

Byrd allegedly specified that he and Alvarez got into a heated argument because he told Alvarez that he wanted to have a baby with her. When she did not agree, Byrd allegedly shot her several times before fleeing the scene.

The arrest report indicates that Byrd admitted to shooting Alvarez with the same gun that he used during the robbery. Byrd was also able to provide additional details about the incident that were consistent with the evidence, according to CBS Austin.

Alvarez, who worked in the food industry, is survived by her 3-year-old son, according to an online obituary. She graduated high school in 2018 and planned to attend college in the fall.

Byrd is currently at the Bexar County Jail on a combined bond of $400,000. His hearing is scheduled to take place on May 31. (Yahoo News).
