Workers in Benue State were on Monday full of praises to the new governor, Rev Father Hyacinth Alia for honoring his promise to start payment of salary as from June 25, 2023.
A cross-section of workers in the state appreciated the governor and urged him to continue the way he has started by paying their salary as at when due.
The Catholic Priest turned politician had during his democracy speech promised to commence payment of salary as of June 25th.
Some of the workers who spoke to our correspondent were elated as they received a May alert from Sunday.
According to Madam Debby Adoka a staff in one of the ministries was elated as she spoke to Tribune Online.
Adoka said, “I can not deceive you, this is a God-sent man to the people of Benue. Aside from the five months’ salary arrears the past governor owed workers in 2017, the last time we received salary was November 2022.
Igbe thanked the governor for honoring his words.
He said, “We want to thank His Excellency for keeping his promise.”
It will be recalled that state workers received their salary last in November 2022.
The workers were also owed arrears of five months in 2017, the immediate past governor, Samuel Ortom promised to pay but could not pay until six months’ arrears added to it.
