The Yola Police have successfully foiled an attempted attack on the residence of former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar. Four individuals suspected to be members of the insurgent group, Boko Haram, were arrested in connection with the plot.
According to a statement released by the media office of Atiku Abubakar on Monday, the incident took place on Sunday, 23 July 2023, at approximately 9:44 pm. Security operatives at the gate of Atiku’s residence apprehended a man attempting to confirm the location of the former vice president’s residence.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Jubrila Mohammed from Damboa in Borno State, confessed to being a Boko Haram member during police interrogation. He revealed that he and his colleagues had planned to attack not only Atiku’s residence but also other organizations associated with him and sensitive locations in Yola.
Prompt action by the police led to the arrest of all four suspects involved in the planned attack. Subsequently, the suspects were handed over to military authorities for further investigation.
In light of the incident, Atiku Abubakar’s media office commended the police for their diligent work in foiling the attack and ensuring the safety of the former vice president and the public. They also called on other relevant security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties to safeguard the nation.
