The police command in Lagos state has officially confirmed the apprehension of three individuals in connection with the unfortunate demise of Vwaere Diaso at the General Hospital in Lagos.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, disclosed this development on Saturday in Lagos. While not revealing the names of the suspects, Hundeyin indicated that the police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The unfortunate incident occurred due to a malfunctioning elevator at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos, resulting in the loss of medical practitioner Ms. Diaso’s life. The incident unfolded on a Wednesday evening when Ms. Diaso, who resided on the 9th floor of the building, was on her way to meet a dispatched rider who had delivered her online food order.
The deceased, a recent graduate of Babcock University in Ilishan Remo, Ogun State, was in the midst of her mandatory one-year internship program at the hospital. Tragedy struck less than two weeks before the completion of her internship.
According to reports, the ill-fated hospital elevator, on the 10th floor, plunged to the ground floor, resulting in the untimely demise of Ms. Diaso. Although she was swiftly transported to the hospital’s emergency ward for treatment, her injuries proved fatal.
Sources close to the incident revealed that the malfunctioning elevator had encountered issues on multiple occasions prior to the tragedy. Regrettably, these signs were not adequately addressed by the hospital’s management.
In the wake of this tragic event, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Sanwo-Olu, expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and assured that a thorough investigation would be carried out to ascertain the circumstances that led to the doctor’s untimely death.
