Ahead of Sunday’s AFCON 2023 qualifiers match with Sao Tome and Principe, Super Eagles newly invited duo of Victor Boniface and Gift Orban has arrived in the country for the encounter slated for Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Both players made all the headlines in the World of football last season while presenting their clubs Gent and USG respectively.
Boniface has been impressive form with his new club Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga and named in the Team of the Week while Orban has kept his scoring form for Gent.
The duo touched down in Nigeria on Tuesday afternoon as the Super Eagles camp is set to open on Wednesday in Uyo.
The only home based player in the team, Ojo Olorunleke is also in Uyo getting ready for the match. The Enyimba shot stopper who is ecstatic about the call-up is quite optimistic about the match.
Blueprint Sport can also report that several of the invited players are already in Lagos and Abuja . Most of them are waiting to catch their flight to Uyo ahead of the resumption of camping Wednesday morning .
Also on ground is Jose Peseiro, the team’s head coach.
Peseiro, who days ago agreed an extension of his contract as Nigeria’s national team coach arrived in Uyo with his assistants since yesterday awaiting the arrival of the players and other backroom staffs.
Nigeria will face Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
