Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, revealed that President Bola Tinubu shared with labor leaders his commitment to reducing governance costs, mentioning that he resides in a two-bedroom apartment. Ajaero discussed this on Channels TV’s Politics Today, following the nationwide protest organized by the labor union, which was subsequently called off after a meeting with the president.
Ajaero conveyed, “In our discussions with the president, we raised concerns about the excessive cost of governance. We pointed out the proliferation of appointments, where ministers appoint additional aides who, in turn, appoint more aides. However, the president countered, urging us to consider the employment aspect. We disagreed on that point.”
“He cited his own circumstances as an example. He mentioned downsizing his car collection, but security reasons prevented further reductions. He also disclosed his preference for using his private jet, but security considerations mandate his use of the government jet. Furthermore, he shared that he resides in a modest two-bedroom flat. He emphasized his efforts to economize and pledged to engage with his staff in this regard. The exact implications of his statements are unclear,” Ajaero explained.
