The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a dominant win in Game 4 to even the series. They head to Oklahoma City for a pivotal Game 5. The winners of Game 5s after tying the series at 2-2 go onto to win the series 88% of the time historically.
Game 4 included two statistical aspects that need to continue for the Spurs to be successful, while the Thunder will need to adapt to those aspects to be successful. In Game 4 we saw the return of the dominant version of Wembanyama. 33 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and a presence that affects the game. In the two Spurs loses, Wemby failed to reach the 20-point range and was not a presence as a rim protector.
For the Thunder it’s a little bit more concerning. The two-time, back-to-back League MVP only scoring 19 points on 40% shooting while only registering 7 assists and 4 rebounds. Coming from a player almost expected to flirt with a 30-point triple double a night. The team is built around SGA. That could have something to do with Stephon Castle as the primary SGA defender in Game 4. When SGA is less than what is expected it throws the production distribution off.
