Memorial Day brings the beginning of the IHSAA softball state tournament.
Area teams compete in sectionals at eight sites.
Greater Lafayette has boasted a state champion in each of the last two seasons, including North Newton winning the Class 1A state title last season.
The Spartans are one of four teams defending sectional titles this week, including Harrison (4A), Rossville (2A) and Clinton Prairie (A).
