Benue council boss vows crackdown on rampant cult killings

April 14, 2026

The Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, has vowed to crack down on cult killings and condemned the recent wave of killings in Naka Town, describing them as “senseless and barbaric”.

He stated this during a condolence visit to the area on Thursday, pledging decisive action to dismantle criminal networks behind the suspected cult attacks.

Naka, the headquarters of Gwer West in Benue State, has recently witnessed rising violence linked to suspected cult activity, leaving several families in grief and the community on edge.

The chairman, accompanied by the Divisional Police Officer, DSP Gazma Chazam, visited affected families to assess the situation and reassure residents.

At the residence of youth leader Iorkohol Peter, witnesses described a coordinated attack by over 20 teenagers, reportedly aged 13 to 15, who stormed the compound armed with stones and pestles.

In another case, Tarbo Moses, known as “Hot Body”, died after sustaining injuries from an attack despite being rushed to a private hospital.

The chairman, who was visibly shaken, vowed that perpetrators would face justice, warning that authorities would no longer tolerate violence.

“We will not tolerate this anymore. Enough is enough,” he said.

He also addressed youths and traders in Naka, urging calm while calling for cooperation with security agencies.

The chairman has directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and intelligence operations.
