The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has intensified its advocacy campaign ahead of the commencement of parking enforcement, with the Authority scheduled to take its awareness roadshow to Ikorodu on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Speaking at a press briefing, the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, said the increased advocacy was aimed at ensuring that businesses, vehicle owners and other stakeholders are adequately informed about their parking obligations before enforcement begins.

She explained that the exercise, which was initially expected to commence earlier, had been shifted to the end of September to allow for broader public sensitisation and engagement.

Mrs. Adelabu noted that voluntary compliance remains the Authority’s preferred approach, stressing that demand notices are issued and queries addressed before enforcement is undertaken. She urged businesses and corporate organisations to pay their parking dues through LASPA’s official channels and warned against making cash payments to unauthorised collectors.

The General Manager explained that enforcement measures could include the clamping and towing of vehicles and, where necessary, the closure of defaulting businesses through due legal process.

“We always try our best to ensure that enforcement really is the last option,” she said.

Mrs. Adelabu added that, in view of this approach, LASPA had decided to engage the media and other stakeholders more extensively this year to ensure that information about parking obligations reaches a wider audience.

She disclosed that corporate parking payments are made annually and that companies with multiple branches can obtain consolidated bills.

She also revealed that the Authority is deploying technology, including a proposed LASPA mobile application and a USSD verification system, to help motorists locate parking spaces, verify authorised parking attendants and make cashless payments.

The General Manager further disclosed that LASPA would work with the police during enforcement operations and deploy body cameras to document activities and enhance the safety and accountability of its personnel.

She explained that LASPA was established to provide a structured and accountable parking management system across Lagos State, noting that the Authority had identified more than 3,400 parking setbacks across the state.

According to her, effective parking management is an important component of Lagos State’s wider transport planning, complementing alternative transportation options such as the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), LagRide, and the Blue and Red rail lines.

The Authority therefore urged businesses, motorists and residents, particularly those in Ikorodu, to participate in the Wednesday roadshow, familiarise themselves with the applicable parking regulations and settle their parking obligations before enforcement commences.
