Hollywood is abuzz with joyous news as acclaimed actor Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe has revealed that she and her husband, Brandon Frankel, welcomed twins earlier this year. According to Shutterstock, the 41-year-old actress shared that the couple’s bundle of joy arrived in early April, bringing double the delight into their lives.
The couple welcomed a baby boy named Cooper and a baby girl named Maya. Sidibe explained that the names held special significance for them. “Brandon always wanted to name a son Cooper, so we can call him ‘Coop,’ and Maya was named shortly before our baby moon to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico,” she shared. “Both twins have traditional West African middle names after members of my family.”
Sidibe couldn’t contain her excitement about her “extremely strong and hilarious” twins, who have distinct personalities even at such a young age. “Cooper will sometimes speak for Maya and alert us that she’s about to spit up. Maya loves her name being sung to her and is the queen of comedic timing, and Cooper loves his sleep and has the funniest facial expressions,” Sidibe said. “They both love cuddling with Mom and Dad.”
The day Sidibe went into labor came as an unexpected surprise. “We originally were going in for a routine appointment, only to be told the twins would be coming later that day and not when originally planned,” she recounted.
Since their arrival, Sidibe and Frankel’s life has been a whirlwind of activity and joy. The actor humorously noted their “biggest surprise” since the twins’ birth has been “just how loud and chaotic babies are when they sleep.” She added, “‘Active sleep’ is pretty wild. Also, it was a surprise to see how little they’ve acknowledged each other outside the womb when they seemed to interact so much inside.”
Offering advice for parents expecting twins, Sidibe emphasized the importance of synchronization. “Get them on the same schedule. It’s a must!” she advised.
Looking forward, Sidibe and Frankel are eager to embrace all aspects of parenthood. “We’re excited for outfits and getting them dressed up, for sing-alongs, trips and to explore, and raising them to be good people,” Sidibe shared.
