Unwelcome passengers joined a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, as maggots fell onto disgusted travelers midair, The Independent reported.
The unsettling visitors had infested fish stored in a passenger’s carry-on, leading to a revolting ordeal mid-flight.
One passenger, Kelce, expressed dismay in a now-deleted tweet,“Really lovely to be 2 hours into an 8 hour @Delta to Amsterdam and find out there is rotten fish and maggots hitching a ride with us,” His post about the flight from hell, wound up being rerouted back to Europe.
The individual responsible for the revulsion was reportedly detained, with their suitcase earmarked for disposal by burning, as per reports from the Daily Mail.
Accounts of the airborne horror circulated on a Delta Reddit page, with witnesses recounting maggots falling onto nearby passengers and even onto seats.
“My family and I were in the row directly in front of the maggots. The lady right behind us told the flight attendants the maggots were falling on her head,” wrote one alleged passenger of the “unfortunate” incident. “Ugh. I turned around and they were wiggling around on the seat.”
“Absolutely gross,” they added. “This dude literally messed up the travel situations of hundreds of people.”
Delta took measures to mitigate the situation, relocating affected passengers, wrapping the offending fish in newspaper, and compensating travelers with 8,000 free miles, hotel accommodations, and a $30 meal voucher for any overnight delays.
The aircraft underwent a thorough cleaning process before resuming service, ensuring the comfort and safety of future passengers.
