Theresa Nist Claims Ex Gerry Turner Once Joked About Chopping Up Her Body

November 5, 2025

In light of his new book, Theresa Nist is looking back at one particular conversation with ex-husband Gerry Turner that still stands out to her today.

“I finally went to his house and we took a walk around this lake called Pretty Lake and we were coming to the end of it and he said — this is really bizarre — He said, ‘You see that shed up there?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘Well, that’s where I’m going to hide your body after I kill you and chop you up,’” Theresa, 72, claimed on the Tuesday, November 4, episode of the “Dear Shandy” podcast. “And he wasn’t laughing. I said, ‘Well, if this was his idea of a joke, that was pretty dark humor.’”

She continued, “I just felt like there was animosity in that statement that was underlying. Like, maybe if he could have gotten rid of me somehow. I don’t think he would have killed me. No, I don’t think that was true. It’s not true, but it just spoke to an underlying feeling about me.”

Us Weekly reached out to Gerry’s rep for comment.

Golden Bachelor’s Theresa Reacts to Gerry Feeling ‘Trapped’ Before Wedding

Theresa and Gerry, 74, met on The Golden Bachelor season 1, which aired in 2023. The pair ended the show engaged before tying the knot in a televised ceremony in 2024. Months later, Theresa and Gerry announced their plans to divorce.

Theresa’s comments come on the same day that Gerry released his memoir, Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality TV. In the book, Gerry shared his side of the story on their relationship — including that he felt “trapped” by deciding to marry Theresa.

“I just didn’t feel overjoyed about it,” Gerry explained in his Us digital cover story last month, before the book’s release. “So much of the book is about how I felt at certain moments, and that’s only a momentary truth… I had second thoughts, but I don’t think [they] were exaggerated from anyone’s normal second thoughts.”

Theresa, for her part, reacted to Gerry’s claims about feeling “trapped,” telling Us in a statement at the time, “It makes me very sad to think that he felt empty and trapped. I wish he had said something and just ended it. But at least now I understand why he was so hurtful to me so many times. And I will say this. Those in glass houses should not throw stones. I do wish him all the best.”

Theresa Nist Reveals ‘Biggest Fear’ About Gerry Turner’s Book

Gerry, meanwhile, made a shady comment when asked whether Theresa should be “worried” about reading the memoir. Gerry replied to Us, “I’m not worried; I think she should be worried.”

“We all have goals in life. We all deserve to be happy. So I certainly wish the same to her as I would all of the women and myself, and that she finds her path to her full happiness,” he said to Us at the time. “There’s nothing wrong with embracing a career like she does — maybe that’s her source of happiness. And I think that would be wonderful. I just wish I would have known that if that’s the case.”
