Husband Charged With Murder After Claiming Wife Stabbed Herself 17 Times

March 9, 2026

A husband in Ohio has been charged with murder after he claimed that his late wife stabbed herself 17 times.

Kyle Long was arrested on Wednesday, March 4, after he allegedly murdered his wife, Rachel Long, inside their home in London, Ohio, on the afternoon of October 23, 2025.

Kyle, 35, told police that Rachel returned home from work on the day of her death and went into the master bathroom as he worked at his desk, according to an arrest warrant viewed by the New York Post. He went on to claim that he saw Rachel stab herself several times in the neck and face.

Rachel was found on the bathroom floor next to the toilet in a pool of blood, and the court record stated that she sustained stab wounds on her face, arms and hands. Police pronounced Rachel dead at the scene when they reported to the home.

Police ordered Kyle to take off his clothes so they could test the articles for DNA and document any injuries he had at the time of the incident. He was then brought to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for questioning, where he told authorities that Rachel had asked for a separation.

The timeline of when Rachel asked for a separation and her death is not currently clear.

An investigation was launched into Rachel’s death, and officials recovered text messages she sent to a friend shortly before her death. Officials noted that she did not seem suicidal in the exchange and said that the two women were discussing the outfits they were planning to wear to a concert the next night.

The last text message that Rachel sent to her friend was sent four minutes before a 911 call was made from Kyle’s phone.

Kyle told police that he never called 911 twice. However, his phone log revealed that he had placed a call four minutes before a second call to 911 was made.

While speaking to police for a second interview, Kyle provided “conflicting” answers that didn’t line up with his initial statements. Additionally, police said that his claims conflicted with evidence found inside his home that indicated there was a “struggle between two individuals.”

Police completed a 360-degree scan of the house and concluded that Kyle couldn’t have seen his wife stabbing herself from where he claimed he was sitting.

Authorities also said that Kyle claimed his wife only used her right hand to stab herself, though an autopsy of her body uncovered multiple “defensive” wounds that would have been impossible for her to inflict with only her right hand.

The autopsy also found 17 “sharp force injuries” on her body. Her death was ultimately ruled a homicide by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Kyle is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond, and it is not currently clear if he has entered a plea. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.

Rachel ran her own pet grooming service, according to her obituary. “An animal lover at heart, she also was active in rescuing dogs. She was an avid reader and loved attending rock concerts,” her obituary stated.
